Biarritz and the Basque Coast

The Basque Country in the far Southwest of France, near the Spanish border, has long been a favourite place to buy property in France.  The rugged coastline, reminiscent of California, the hilly lush green back country, its great surfing, traditional architecture and lively nightlife make for a great place to live.  On the coast the towns of Biarritz, and Saint Jean de Luz are big favourites, along with the charming villages of Bidart and Guethary.

Inland, the rolling hills of Sare, Espelette, Arcangues and Ahetze, amongst others make for a pleasant country life for those wishing to buy a property, just 10 to 20 mins from the Atlantic Coast and its stunning beaches.  Typical properties are large half-timbered Basque farmhouses inland, with more modern Ocean side villas a favourite along the coast.

Regardless of what type of property you purchase here, the Basque colours of red and green are omnipresent on shutters and wood of homes, making for a truly traditional feel.  With property being prime in this part of the world many people choose a town centre lock up and go apartment in the lively town of Biarritz, where nightlife rivals that of many a bigger city.
